Flying Club News 29th October

just a few days left of October and most importantly the clocks go BACK this Sunday so don't be late for the place that provides some of you the means to come and play in the sky.
A mixed bag of the unmentionable stuff has meant we have had to cancel some flights this last week but the weekend is...........nearly!!!!
The firework display is all set for next Thursday, please let me know by Wednesday 12.00 noon if you are planning to come to Pilots in the Pub after as the Pub will need your food order in advance.
Hugo got his job at Ryan Air and will be leaving to start his line training and how to charge more for inside seats!!! in January huge congratulations and a load HURRAH!

Night Ratings
with the clocks going back we shall be starting night ratings courses shortly, give me a call or drop me an e-mail if you would like to add or re validate this rating.

Poppy Appeal
we always have a collection point for the British legion at the club house and this year more than ever do the BL need your help. They have been a little eclipsed by the "help for heroes" charity. The BL have been doing their thing for nearly a 100 years and do not get the glaring publicity that the Help for Heroes has received, they just get on with a mass of rather mundane but vitally important work for all our heroes both young and old so please give the BL the recognition they rightfully deserve and help them to help others. Thank you.

Flying Club News 27th August

what a fab week........for the grass!! Its looking fantastic and we should start cutting it again...hurrah.
With the unmentionable stuff being soooooooo great the only visitors here have been wasps, hundreds of the little blighters, we may declare this a wasp free zone, just need to find a way of telling them that!
With pilots in the pub next week means we are fast approaching the end of August and the last bank holiday weekend before Crimbo.
We are a bit short on aeroplanes for this weekend due to maintenance, make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.
We will be switching over to a new News letter system, you will need to double subscribe to carry on getting the weekly ramblings. Its a law in the USA and there is no way around it, its very simple, so please have patience. The current system is very cumbersome and its time to call it a day.

Club Mugs
The first order has gone in and we should see them in a few weeks Hurrah

flying Club News 20th August

Its been a good week, with some new students signing up and passing exams with a 100%, well done to Rob MaGuire. Just goes to show how good our ground school Jehdi master Andy Sussums is.....that's the second 100% pass on Met. What more can be said, only that we will be running more ground schools sessions. Need help with any subject then drop me an e-mail and we will keep you informed.

We had thousands of visitors for the Military Vehicle trust event/BBQ last Sunday, sadly most of them were the little yellow and black blighters with the stinging tail section! Apart from the waspies it was a great event, not that I got to see much as yours truly was chained to the BBQ until most of the vehicles had left. My thanks to Fiona, Sam and Hugo for making the event a success.

As you are probable aware today is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, had this battle gone the other way, you would probably be using the Euro and you would be reading this in German! Some seriously brave men and women fought this battle, whatever your veiw point, it really happened and we ALL owe them at least a Thank you!

Great Opportunity 1 from Nick Bennet

Sitting in a hangar down at the Science Museum's large storage facility at

Wroughton is Cessna 150 G-AWAW which in 1980 was flown solo by

Janette Schönburg from London to Darwin, Australia. To cut a long story short,

this aircraft needs to be disassembled, put in a container and shipped to

Florida. A group of us will be doing this on Tuesday August 31st and we're

looking for one more person plus perhaps one reserve willing to help. After

G-AWAW is safely packed in the container, we'll be getting a private guided tour

of the hangers by the museum's principal curator. These hangars are not open to

the public, so this is a rare treat. Some photos of what's stored there can be

found here

http://www.petergoodearl.co.uk/laceygreen/days/wroughton/hangard4/index.htm

If you're interested, see the G-AWAW web site ( http://www.g-awaw.org/ ) and give

me a call on 07734 255878. It'll be a case of first come first served. You must

be available to be at Wroughton from 9am on the 31st, and ideally also attend a

briefing session the previous evening also in Wroughton. You MUST have a pair of

steel-toecapped shoes/boots as this is a health & safety requirement of the

museum.

Bring a picnic and a bottle or three and we can cheer, hiss and boo all this for £8.00 which goes to the National Trust, so you can have a laugh and do your bit to preserve our heritage at the same time.

Flying Club News 16th July

we had a great turn out for the inaugural summer BBQ, sadly the strong wind spoilt what would have been a perfect evening, but everyone had a good time. come along to the next one on the 14th August. It would appear that the pool jinx has not left us as the unmentionable stuff has been awful for most of this week. Nick Bennett passed his IMC rating this week, congratulation to Nick on gaining this very special rating. Hurrah!

Not flying and cancelling lessons Just recently we have a large number of cancellations of booked flights and lessons. Whilst we appreciate that things do go wrong and illness cannot be planned for, we do need to know if you are not planning to fly at least 24hrs in advance. For students, you must call in and talk to your instructor or Me. When you book either an aircraft or a lesson the aircraft is automatically allocated to you and cannot be booked by anyone else, with a lesson both the aircraft and instructor are booked, your instructor comes in specifically to teach you, if they do not fly they do not get paid. We will with immediate effect charge £50 for cancellations inside the 24hr notice period.

Social Team/Committee since there has been no interest from anyone to be part of this group we will visit it another time perhaps

Flyout Calendar Leicester Aero Club have a Thursday Curry night, we could take the fleet out for a Vindaloo! Let me know if you fancy coming along. 24th July Duxford fly in for Piper aircraft with reduced landing fees.

Half Price flying we have aircraft going back and forward for maintenance, if you fancy some cheap flying in the fleet let me know. We will publish flights in advance, you only pay half the AGREED flight time to and from Coventry, Sywell or Cranfield.  Ground School for students   We will be running a Meteorology on the 3rd August, give me a call if you would like to join in on this.

Flying Club News 2nd July

It was a small but lively gathering at Pilots in the pub last night, good to see some old members coming back to say hello and share tall tales. Come along to the next on on the 5th of August or better still our BBQ on the 10th July.
A double helping of good news this week .The first bit of really good news is that Gill McNeil passed her CPL practical and is now a fully fledged Instructor and we welcome her to Team Enstone.
The Muppet's masquerading as an England team (using team loosely rather than a group of individuals actually working together) came home for an early bath, to their beloved Ferrari's, WAGs and £100k a week! At least we don't have to listen/watch the the mindless drivel pumped out 24/7 by the worlds media on the mental state of one team Muppet's dog. Hurrah for a defeat justly deserved!
The access road crew will not be needed this weekend, I screwed up on the concrete front, sorry!

Aerofair
I spent a couple of useful hours at this sparsely attended event on the Sunday, as you would expect a good showing of European and American built aircraft or kits but sadly not many from the UK. Why is that? Is it an indictment of our over regulated aviation industry or a lack of vision? Perhaps its the companies with everything to gain and nothing to loose are making aeroplanes for us to buy?
Great to meet the fine fellows from the British disabled flying Assn, we hope to be training some less able flying in our newly adapted PA28.
The Aware GPS system (built locally HURRAH) is a huge leap forward for flight safety, it is our intention to fit the basic unit in all the training aircraft after an evaluation period of one unit.
The LAA site was great, full of enthusiastic pilots/builders and some fabulous aircraft, Oh how I wish their enthusiasm could be turned into production aircraft built in the UK!
Some fab avifurniture by Hikoki, really beautiful desks, tables, lamps etc. all made from bits of aircraft. Lovely, unique but requiring deep pockets.
I had the chance to talk with John Edgley the designer of one of my favorite aeroplanes the Optica, a truly remarkable machine which I was lucky to fly a circuit at Enstone last year. Would be great to see many of them grace our skies in the future. Would any of you be interested in forming a group around one of these unique aeroplanes? let me know if you are!!!!

Flying club News 25th June

Well the budget has come and gone and as expected we will all work longer, be expected to work harder for less and pay more ... so nothing new there then!

The work party for the access road has been cancelled for this weekend as Aero fair is on at Booker and many people are visiting that show,( its also going to be hot enough to boil a Monkeys B*m tomorrow and not condusive to manual labour) I shall be visiting it myself today and will produce a report for those of you who are unable to go.
